The GAMeC CentroArteModerna of Pisa hosts the twenty-sixth edition of the exhibition “Author’s Graphic Art – Selected Works”, curated by Massimiliano Sbrana. An event that, year after year, is confirmed as a point of reference for those who wish to understand and appreciate the true essence of fine art graphics.
At a time when the term “author’s graphic art” is often abused and confused with simple digital prints devoid of value, this exhibition seeks to bring attention back to the quality and authenticity of the works. Fine art graphics, in fact, are never the result of a fast and impersonal process: they arise from patient and complex manual work, in which the artist and the master printer collaborate in symbiosis. Each color is separated and recomposed by hand, each matrix requires days of processing, and printing on a manual press becomes a creative act that restores uniqueness to each copy.
The exhibition highlights how graphic art, both in its serial forms and in its more unique ones, represents an artistic language of great value. In the past, engraving, lithography, and screen printing opened up new expressive possibilities, bringing the lightness of drawing closer to the chromatic strength of painting. Today, contemporary artists continue to explore this language with freshness and rigor, demonstrating that graphic art is not a minor art, but a field of research and experimentation capable of engaging in dialogue with the present.
It is no coincidence that the GAMeC of Pisa, heir to the historic Art Print Workshop “Il Gabbiano,” is the ideal place to host this exhibition. “Il Gabbiano” was the first art print workshop in Pisa, born with the intention of giving dignity and space to original graphic art. From that pioneering experience emerged the present GAMeC CentroArteModerna of Pisa, which continues the mission of spreading culture and awareness, offering the public quality works and opportunities for exchange.
The twenty-sixth edition of “Author’s Graphic Art – Selected Works” is therefore not only an exhibition, but an invitation to rediscover the beauty of manual graphic art, to understand the value of artisanal work, and to recognize the expressive strength of a language that, from the nineteenth century to today, continues to renew itself and to surprise.
The exhibition will continue until January 7, 2026, with free admission.
