On Saturday 23 May 2026 at 5.30 pm, in the historic premises of the GAMeC CentroArteModerna in Pisa (Lungarno Mediceo, 26), the exhibition Itinerari Artistici Pisani will open, conceived, curated and organised by Massimiliano Sbrana.
This marks a new chapter in a journey that, for over half a century, has seen the GAMeC committed to documenting, preserving and promoting the visual culture of artists active in Pisa from the 1940s to the present day.
Under Sbrana’s leadership, GAMeC stands as one of the city’s longest-standing and most consistent cultural institutions: a place that has weathered decades of artistic transformation, supporting generations of artists and safeguarding a heritage that today constitutes a precious collective memory. Itinerari Artistici Pisani is part of this historic mission, becoming not merely an exhibition but a living testimony to the evolution of Pisan art across nearly eighty years of history.
The exhibition offers a journey that begins with the figurative and experimental explorations of the post-war period, traverses the innovations of the late 20th century and reaches the most contemporary expressions, providing a broad and detailed overview. Thanks to the collaboration with the GAMeC’s ARCHIVIO d’ARTE collection, the exhibition showcases the richness of a region which, though often far from the national spotlight, has generated original artistic languages, independent sensibilities and creative paths of great value.
Artists active from the 1940s onwards have helped to define a varied landscape, in which tradition and experimentation, figuration and abstraction, introspection and social commitment coexist. Through the selected works, the exhibition highlights the connections and differences between the various protagonists, outlining the profile of a Pisan Art Movement which, although not always recognised as such by official critics, has left a significant mark on the history of Italian art. On this occasion, the works of:
