The literature meetings of Palazzo Blu, curated by Maria Cristina Cabani and Alberto Casadei, open this year to international literature investigating a topic of tragic current events, the murder without motive, through the reading of four famous novels, commented on by scholars and experts in the field. A theme will be the femicide, subject of the South American El tunel, book by Ernesto Sabato (1948), then move to the senseless cruelty of The city of the living (2020), Nicola Lagioia, inspired by a very short episode of Roman chronicle. A black story from the American province is also inspired by Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood (1966), which at the time aroused a violent controversy, precisely because of its non-fiction character, a true novel. The indifference of the employee Mersault, murderer by accident, protagonist of Albert Camus' The Stranger (1942), is finally an emblem of the existentialist conception of human life, entrusted to non-sense, in which every gesture, almost mechanical, has the same 'weight'.
