Ludoteca Scientifica

The Ludoteca Scientifica is an educational and interactive exhibition dedicated to discovering science through play, hands-on experience and experimentation. Located at the Cittadella Galileiana, it forms part of the University of Pisa’s Museum Network and was created with the aim of introducing children, young people and adults to scientific culture through a simple, engaging and interactive approach.

The Ludoteca draws its inspiration directly from Galileo Galilei’s experimental method: observing phenomena, formulating hypotheses and testing them through experimentation. The exhibition features a collection of games and instruments that allow visitors to experience first-hand some of the fundamental phenomena underlying physics and the sciences.

The exhibition features experiences dedicated, amongst other things, to mechanics, magnetism, electricity, optics and gravity, accompanied by science facilitators who guide visitors in discovering the various phenomena. The visit thus takes the form of a workshop where learning happens through doing and observing.

Alongside the interactive exhibition, the Ludoteca offers educational workshops for different age groups, activities focused on astronomy, and opportunities to observe the sky through telescopes.

Established in 2002, the Ludoteca Scientifica has developed over the years into a key centre for science communication and maintains its links with the city’s tradition of scientific research and teaching. Today, it is a place where science, play and experimentation come together, offering an experience suitable for families, schools and visitors keen to discover science through hands-on activities.
