Urban Trekking is a sustainable tourism project that invites you to discover cities at a slow pace, away from the beaten track. An experience open to everyone, combining wellness, culture and the discovery of the most authentic and hidden corners of the area.
It is not just a walk: it is a cultural experience, sustainable and accessible to all, which takes you through streets, alleys, parks and monuments off the beaten track.
Walking in the city means looking at what we thought we knew with new eyes, reconnecting with the history, art and soul of places.

Once again this year, the Pisa City Council's Tourism Department is promoting two free itineraries to discover some of the secrets of our city for the 22nd edition of Urban Trekking.

Groups will consist of a maximum of 30 people.
Participation is free, but booking is required by filling in the registration forms for each itinerary.

Route 1 - City Itinerary
Urban Trekking in Pisa: in the footsteps of saints, pilgrims and merchants

An urban trek in the most authentic heart of Pisa, amid spirituality, history and legends. Our route starts from Piazza del Duomo, the beating heart of the city's faith and guardian of the tomb of Saint Ranieri, patron saint of the city. From here, we will walk towards the charming church of San Paolo a Ripa d'Arno, following an itinerary that intertwines faith, memory and landscape.
We will pass through places marked by the passage of the Pisan saints — San Torpè, Santa Bona, Sant'Ubaldesca — and discover how Pisa, thanks to the sea and its rivers, was a crossroads of cultures and devotions over the centuries. Among Romanesque churches and precious reliquaries, among popes, emperors and merchants, we will recount the extraordinary lives of those who left their mark on the history of the city.
An itinerary between the sacred and the profane, history and faith, to rediscover hidden corners of Pisa and rediscover, step by step, the lost charm of a time that still lives on in the stones of the city.

Route 2 - Itinerario naturalistico
Urban Trekking in Pisa: a Journey Through Time, History, Nature and Spirituality

The Urban Trekking tour starts from a place steeped in charm and spirituality: the splendid Basilica of San Piero a Grado, a jewel of Pisan Romanesque architecture. According to tradition, this is where the Apostle Peter landed on his journey to Rome in 44 AD, a legendary episode that catapults us into the atmosphere of the early centuries of Christianity.
An opportunity to discover the deep connection between Pisa, the sea and the spread of Christian worship. During the Middle Ages, the city was in fact a key crossroads for the arrival of relics and religious traditions from all over the Mediterranean.
We will follow a section of the Cammino di San Jacopo, a modern pilgrimage route connecting Florence and Livorno, immersing ourselves in the heart of a landscape that intertwines history and nature between the San Rossore Park and the coastal plain of the Tenuta di Tombolo.

Length: approximately 6 km
