“5 Steps to A Love Supreme – 1925–1965” is the title of the 2025 edition of Sundays in Jazz: five appointments to explore the path that led, in forty years, from the classic jazz of Louis Armstrong to the spiritual transcendence of John Coltrane.
Jazz was born before the album, but it was with Louis Armstrong's voice and trumpet that it found a complete and modern form. My Heart, recorded in 1925, is the first album under his own name, while Heebie Jeebies introduces the scat technique to the general public. Armstrong, who grew up in New Orleans, revolutionized the very concept of improvisation and soloism, marking the beginning of jazz maturity.
Paying tribute to this founding figure of jazz, a quartet of exceptional performers: Andrea Tofanelli, one of the most virtuoso trumpeters in Europe, leads the ensemble with expressive force and technical precision. At his side, Andrea Garibaldi on piano, Nino Pellegrini on double bass and Michele Vannucci on drums offer refined and profound accompaniment, restoring the sense of music that marked the transition from tradition to modern art.
5 appointments with 5 concert lessons to talk about forty years of jazz at Palazzo Blu.
