Jazz is the protagonist of the Music under the Tower exhibition, from 27 June to 6 July, with four appointments in the Cloister of the Duomo Opera Museum entrusted to some of the best musicians of the international jazz scene: Simona Molinari, Danilo Rea, Paolo Fresu & Uri Caine, Francesca Tandoi.
The exhibition, now in its 16th edition, is organized by the Opera della Primaziale Pisana in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Pisa-Diocesan Caritas. The collection of tickets will be donated to the Archdiocese of Pisa-Diocesan Caritas, to support the project of solidarity and assistance in the territory Mensa Nuova.
First appointment on Friday, June 27, at 9:30 pm, with the pop-jazz singer-songwriter Simona Molinari presenting her new show La donna è mobile. It is a musical-theatrical journey written by Molinari herself together with the journalist and author Simona Orlando, a heartfelt tribute to the expressive freedom of women as interpreters, composers, writers. From Mary Shelley to Natalia Ginzburg, Dorothy Parker and Paola Pallottino, from Lotte Lenya to Nina Simone, Mina, Mercedes Sosa and Billie Eilish, in a tight web of music, poetry and literature. On stage with Simona Molinari, voice of seductive versatility, an all-female band formed by Sade Mangiaracina piano and backing vocals, Chiara Lucchini sax, flute and backing vocals, Elisabetta Pasquale bass and backing vocals, Francesca Remigi on drums.
Second appointment on Tuesday 1 July, at 9:30 pm with the pianist Danilo Rea who together with Barbara Bovoli (narrator and author of the text) and Oona Rea (voice) pays tribute to an icon of jazz history with the show La vera storia di Billie Holiday. Oona Rea, daughter of art of innate talent, interprets the greatest hits of Billie Holiday, extraordinary voice that was pioneer in the fight for the civil rights of African-Americans, A very complex female figure about whom much has been written and the most imaginative anecdotes have been invented. But in the show the many biographical dissonances will give way to great jazz, in a harmonious fusion of singing, improvisation and narration.
Thursday, July 3 at 21:30 will be the turn of an exceptional duo, trumpeter Paolo Fresu and pianist Uri Caine. Improvvisi is the name of their last musical project fruit of a partnership that lasts for over twenty years: the meeting between two great personalities of modern jazz, two masters in improvisation able to create unprecedented alchemy. The omnivorous pianism of Uri Caine, who mixes jazz, classical, electronic and rock, merges perfectly with the sound of the trumpet and flugelhorn by Paolo Fresu and his extraordinary musical "intelligence".
The show closes on Sunday, July 6, at 9:30 pm, the concert of the pianist Francesca Tandoi in trio with Matheus Nicolaiewsky (double bass) and Sander Smeets (drums). Rising star of the international jazz scene, pianist and vocalist of a unique interpretative elegance, Francesca Tandoi is an extraordinary band leader endowed with "an excellent musical taste and a sophisticated sense of arrangement" (Monty Alexander), now present in the major jazz festivals of the world.
Every evening of the concert, the bar/café on the upper floor of the museum will be open until 21:00. For the occasion also the Bookshop inside the Museum will be extended.
