The exhibition. The exhibition offers a profound dialogue between the Gothic architecture of the Church of the Spina and contemporary artistic research focused on the phenomenon of light, and represents a moment of synthesis of D'Angiolo's pictorial and photographic research.
The heart of the exhibition consists of a visually striking installation with 8 works, 4 on each side, arranged scenically “like telescopes” that converge towards the central painting entitled “The Waiting Table”. A choice that is not random, but guides the visitor's eye into a perspective that enhances the depth of the sacred space, creating a rhythmic path where light becomes matter.
At the heart of D'Angiolo's work is in fact the study of color as the primary source of light. As the artist explains in the catalog presentation: "Through knowledge of the behavior of the light that strikes the object, I was able to create an apparently three-dimensional image on a two-dimensional space, also evoking its temporal spatiality."
The exhibition thus transforms the interior of the Church of the Thorn into a place of contemplation where the “changing play of colors” and the arrangement of the works invite a reflection on nature and its luminous essence.
The artist. Lorenzo D'Angiolo (Seravezza, 1939) is an internationally renowned artist whose career spans painting and photography. Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara, where he taught painting disciplines, he combined academic research with a deep experience of travel in America, Asia and Africa, transforming photography into a language parallel and complementary to painting. Since 1971 he has exhibited in prestigious venues, including the Palazzo Mediceo in Seravezza, the Museo “Giulio Bargellini” and prestigious galleries in New York and Milan. A multiple award winner (Ravenna Marina Prize, True Sunlight of Art), his works are present in important permanent collections. Its stylistic signature lies in a perfect balance between reality and evocation, with a relentless investigation of light and nature.
