The personal exhibition "L'altro lato del sogno / Abitare una poesia", organised and curated by Massimiliano Sbrana, of the well-known and appreciated Emilian author Anna Paglia, whose abstract research of "rêverie" is expressed on canvases, often of large dimensions and where fantasy ranges in an imaginative world of shapes and colours, will be inaugurated on Saturday 6 April 2024 at 6 p.m. at the GAMeC CentroArteModerna in Pisa (Lungarno Mediceo 26).
Anna Paglia, born in Castelnovo ne' Monti (RE), her training began in Genoa where she spent the first part of her life. After moving back to the province of Reggio Emilia, she got involved with her first exhibition in 2000, experimenting with various pictorial languages. In 2002, she met the musician-poet Marcel and began a collaboration that led to the founding of the Metamorfosi Art Gallery in Reggio Emilia. This gallery soon became a meeting point for intellectuals, artists and critics. Between exhibitions and reflections on various art movements, in 2004 the focus was on the philosophical concept of the "Surrational" conceived by Marcel Cadoni, taken up and further elaborated by the historian Franco Canova, Anna Paglia herself, and the symbolist Paolo Navale. In April 2010, together with Franco and Marcel, she officially founded the "Surrational Movement" with references to the French philosopher Gaston Bachelard (1884-1962).
An initial exhibition of his supra-rational works, entitled 'The Universe and the Zodiac' in which the artist 'sows the earth to create the sky' was presented by critic Marzio Dall'Acqua and curated by Franco Canova, in the rooms of Palazzo Casotti (under the patronage of the Museums, the Reggio Emilia Municipality's Department of Culture and Special Projects).
He has subsequently exhibited in other museums. He has numerous exhibitions to his credit in Italy (Reggio Emilia, Modena, Ostuni, Genoa, Savona, Parma, Perugia, Ascoli Piceno, Mantua, Viterbo, Rome, Florence, Pisa, Ischia, Gubbio, Venice, Spoleto, Milan...), and in major European cities (Vienna 2010, Prague 2011, Sofia 2012, London 2013, Paris 2013, Brussels 2014, Zurich 2015, Montreux 2016, Innsbruck 2016, Barcelona 2018, Moscow 2018, Nizhny Novgorod 2018, St. Petersburg 2019). His works can be found in private Italian and foreign collections, in public and ecclesiastical settings, including three large triptychs: one 'Beyond' representing the Transfiguration of Jesus and the 'Christ of Mercy', both surrounded by luminous universes and placed the first in the new parish church of Reggiolo and the second in the 'Madonna Greca Madre della Misericordia' church in Portopalo Capopassero in Sicily, and the third, 'Matilda' dedicated to Matilda of Canossa, in the rooms of the Municipality of Carpineti.
The exhibition will be open from 6 to 24 April 2024.
