On Tuesday, 25 November 2025, Pisa will host a packed programme of events to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.The programme includes a series of initiatives that are not limited to the day itself, Tuesday 25 November, but also extend to other dates.

On Tuesday 25 November, at 6 p.m., in the prestigious Piazza dei Miracoli, the Lanzetta Women's Orchestra will perform selections from Vivaldi's “The Four Seasons”.During the musical performance, the Tower of Pisa will also be illuminated in orange, as part of the Orange the World campaign. In case of bad weather, the event will be moved to the cloister of the Opera Primaziale.Both events will be accompanied by classical dance performances, made possible thanks to the collaboration of the DAR company of the Elsa Ghezzi dance school in Pisa, which will contribute with dedicated choreography.

On Tuesday, 25 November, at 11:30 a.m., the Municipality of Pisa will exhibit the work of Elina Chauvet, a Mexican artist who used red shoes (Zapatos Rojos) to denounce the number of femicides in Ciudad Juárez, a project that has become a global symbol of the fight against gender-based violence, in the space in front of Palazzo Gambacorti.

On Thursday, 28 November, at 9:30 a.m., in the Sala Baleari of the Municipality of Pisa, the municipal administration, in collaboration with the head of the Health and Gender Medicine Coordination Centre of the Tuscany Region, Dr. M. Azdegan, the AOUP and representatives of local institutions, is organising the conference “Gender-based violence and women's rights: areas of intervention, policies and open challenges”. During the meeting, topics such as protection tools, different forms of violence, the role of the Pisa Public Prosecutor's Office in the context of the Red Code and the medical-legal aspects of the Pink Code will be addressed.

On Friday, 6 December, at 5 p.m., again in the Sala Baleari, a conference will be held on the sensitive issue of female genital mutilation, organised in collaboration with FIDAPA – Pisa Section and Rotary Club Pisa, with the participation of legal experts, doctors and professionals from the academic and healthcare worlds.

On Tuesday, 9 December, at 12:30 p.m., a red bench will be inaugurated and placed inside the Giardino Scotto as a permanent symbol of the fight against violence against women.
