The twenty-fifth edition of "Bimbimbici" will take place on Sunday, May 24th. This event, organized by FIAB in collaboration with the Municipality of Pisa, aims to promote active mobility and promote cycling among young people. Originally scheduled for Sunday, May 10, it was postponed due to bad weather.
The event, aimed primarily at children aged 5 to 11 but open to all, aims to promote reflection on the need to moderate urban traffic, create 30-mile zones and cycle paths, increase the livability of city centers, and promote the creation of protected home-school paths and "school roads." FIAB also promotes participatory initiatives to identify critical points on home-school routes and encourage traffic calming, also thanks to its collaboration with the StreetsForKids network. Last year, Bimbimbici involved over 40,000 participants across Italy, in more than 200 cities across 18 regions. This year too, the Pisan event is included in the three-year "Bici in Comune" call for proposals from the Ministry of Sport.
The short route, which includes a tour of the four central Lungarni, is approximately 2.5 km long and can be tackled by everyone. The complete route, approximately 7 km long, also includes the extension around the city and cannot be traveled by children using wheeled bikes. At the second pass in Piazza XX Settembre, the little ones will finish their ride, while the rest of the procession will continue along the entire route. The procession will be escorted by the Municipal Police and the route will be closed to traffic or cordoned off as participants pass. Following the event, there will also be a minibus with a mechanic and doctor on board for any needs or minor accidents.
The meeting is scheduled for Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in Piazza XX Settembre, where you can register and participate in the fun activities organized by FIAB and UISP. The bike ride through the city streets is scheduled to depart at 10:30 a.m., followed by a snack.
To participate in Bimbimbici you must register before departure.
Registration is free and can be done online until Saturday, May 9th. Participants will also be able to rent a bicycle at Smile and Ride, in Station Square, taking advantage of a 10% discount. The presence of parents is highly recommended. Information and registration on https://www.fiabpisa.it/bimbimbici.htm.
