ACCUMULATIO VETUSTATIS is the name of the installation/accomulation created by the multifaceted and eclectic Piedmontese but Pisan born author Michele Bracciotti visible to the public from 29 July 2025 at the GAMeC in Pisa on the Lungarno Mediceo at number 26.
Michele Bracciotti resorts to the assembly of shapes that recall fragments of the classical era, similarly to what can be observed very frequently in the construction of places of worship, not least our Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. Wandering around it, at times you can notice the remains of finely sculpted Roman-era architraves which abruptly interrupt the linear continuity of the marble wall, often in an upside-down position.
The works that make up the "ACCUMULATIO VETUSTATIS" are made of simple refractory clay or stoneware fired at high temperatures and subsequently patinated and wax-polished. They are two-dimensional in bas-relief form or three-dimensional such as urns or columns. Each element is engraved with a motto in Latin, as if an archaic traveler inspired by the work had stopped to write a thought about it.
Visible until September 3, 2025. The GAMeC in Pisa can be visited with free entry from 10:00 to 12:30 from Tuesday to Friday (summer time).
To then guarantee greater visibility and accessibility, the curator Massimiliano sbrana and the author have strategically placed the "ACCUMULATIO VETUSTATIS" close to the showcase of the GAMeC CentroArteModerna in Pisa, which overlooks the suggestive Lungarno Mediceo. The position, visible from the outside, also allows those walking along the Arno to get closer to the tactile and symbolic dimension of the work at all hours of the day.
Michele Bracciotti was born in Pisa on 25 May 1962. After obtaining a degree in Medicine, he moved to Piedmont for professional reasons, while maintaining a strong bond with his homeland. His artistic journey began with traditional analogue photography, developed in the darkroom, and with ancient techniques of transposing the image onto paper using chemical reagents.
The turning point in his career was meeting the Cuneo master Dario Ghibaudo, who introduced him to the art of clay modeling. From that moment, Bracciotti studied ceramic techniques in depth, obtaining a diploma as a lathe worker at the Experimental Institute of Ceramics in Montelupo Fiorentino.
His works range from bas-reliefs to urns, from busts to columns, and are distinguished by a balance between historical memory and contemporary sensitivity. He has exhibited in numerous personal and collective exhibitions, including “La mia Terra” in Pisa and “Motus Terrae/Terrae Motus” in Bra. It collaborates with the GAMeC CentroArteModerna of Pisa and is part of the Amici della Ceramica di Castellamonte association.
Bracciotti lives and works in Bra, where he founded his ceramic workshop. His production is characterized by a profound reflection on the material and constant expressive research, which also leads him to experiment with photographic techniques such as cyanotype and gum bichromate. His art is a journey between myth, poetry and current events, always guided by an authentic passion and tireless dedication.
