Starting from Saturday 23rd of October and until 28th of November, the church of the Spina will host the exhibition entitled "SPINAE meanings and small thoughts" with the exhibition of 15 works by the artist Fabio Calvetti (8 paintings on wood and 7 three-dimensional). It is the gift that the Cultural Association "Il Mosaico" offers to the city to celebrate the first fifteen years of the association. The initiative received the contribution and the patronage of the Municipality of Pisa.

The project at the Spina, curated by Maurizio Gronchi in the installation by Giulia Gaggelli, conceptually continues the exhibition created by Fabio Calvetti in 2019 in Montaione in the Jerusalem of San Vivaldo entitled "Trasumanar" (rising beyond the limits of human nature to draw divine nature ), where in a dialogue between past and present, the man-artist approaches the questions of the Sacred in the search for a relationship between contemporary art, religious themes and architectural spaces. On this trail Santa Maria della Spina in Pisa represents the ideal space to continue this journey; the beautiful gothic church with its blinding brightness can become the "place" where Passion and Resurrection give us a moment of reflection in this very complicated period for all of us, with a reflection on broader themes such as violated nature, integral ecology and the vulnerability of man. Therefore the exhibition is conceived as a distinct artistic and cultural contribution for the City of Pisa and is centered on the theme of the "Thorn" which will also be explored in the texts in the catalog by the theologian Maurizio Gronchi and by the art historian Antonio Natali, former director of the Uffizi Gallery. “The exhibition is an evocative mix of ancient and contemporary art that wants to push us to reflect” comments Riccardo Buscemi, President of Il Mosaico.

Opening hours: Friday 3.00pm - 5.00pm, Saturday and Sunday 10.30am - 12.30pm / 3.00pm - 5.00pm.
