Sunday, December 3 is renewed the appointment with #domenicalmuseo, the initiative of the Ministry of Culture that allows free admission, every first Sunday of the month, in museums and state archaeological parks.
The National Museum of San Matteo will be open free of charge from 9:00 am to 13:30 pm (last admission 13:00 pm).
At 11.00 a.m., Professor Marco Collareta will once again meet visitors to the Museo Nazionale di San Matteo Pisa.
In view of the upcoming festivities, the theme of the meeting will be Christmas: the story of the 'Vision of Saint Bridget', depicted in the painting attributed to Turino Vanni.
St Bridget (Sweden, 1303 - Rome, 1373) lived in deep and intimate contact with Christ and the Blessed Virgin. While standing in front of the grotto of the Basilica of the Nativity on her pilgrimage to Bethlehem on 15 and 22 August 1372, she had a vision of the nativity. The saint's account presents, with great discretion and infinite delicacy, but also with vigorous realism, the description of Mary's birth and the birth of Jesus.
When the Virgin felt she had given birth, she immediately bowed her head and brought her hands to her breast; then with great reverence she began to adore the Child, saying:
"Welcome, my God, my Lord, my Son".
The story of the Vision spread and had such immediate success that, only a few years later, in the late 14th century, the Pisan painter Turino Vanni depicted it in this original painting from the Pisan church of San Domenico.
The National Museum of the Royal Palace will be open and can be visited from 9 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. (last admission 1.30 p.m.).
At 11 a.m. there will be a free guided tour during which it will be possible to admire a new tapestry of Medici manufacture and belonging to the museum's collection, exhibited for the first time at the Royal Palace after restoration.
