At the Bastione del Parlascio until 18 January, an exhibition retracing some of the milestones in the career of cartoonist Tuono Pettinato and his relationship with Pisa, his hometown. Opening on Wednesday 10 December at 11:00 am.
The title recalls his collaboration with the magazine “Seconda Cronaca”, which ran for several issues from 2017 to 2019: Tuono Pettinato's ironic and surreal tone characterised a column that dealt with local issues, events and topics of current interest at the time of publication: from the Pisa Mover to traffic jams on the Ponte della Vittoria, from Gay Pride 2019 to municipal anti-nightlife ordinances. For the occasion, Tuono Pettinato created two characters: Arno, the red dog with the cross of Pisa on his chest and the black and blue scarf of Pisa Calcio, and Kinzy, the wise child who talks to Arno.
The exhibition is open during the opening hours of the Pisa City Walls, every day except in bad weather, from 10 am to 5 pm, with last admission at 4:30 pm. Admission is included in the ticket price for the walkway.
Ironic interpretations and “original and creative” suggestions for improving the city, starting with links to bookshops, publishing houses, various businesses, libraries and schools: Libreria dei Ragazzi, Libreria Ghibellina, Editrice Campanila, Pacini Editore, Marchetti Editore, Pasticceria Frangioni, Ottica Allegrini, Cineclub Arsenale, Barbiere Papillon, Sezione Soci Coop di Pisa, Biblioteca SMS and schools.
Class 3 E, specialising in graphic design at the Russoli Art School, and comic book artist Giovanni Timpano collaborated on the exhibition. Also on display are the works of students who designed possible posters with suggestions for improvements to Pisa. Giovanni Timpano (cartoonist, illustrator of advertising campaigns commissioned by major brands such as Ferrari, Lego and Mediaworld for their stands at Lucca Comics, Batman artist; he works on the video game “Call of Duty”) met with the class to talk about the content and methods of his work as a graphic designer and illustrator. The event is organised by the Pettinato Foundation in collaboration with the cooperatives CoopCulture, Itinera and Promocultura, which manage the Walls of Pisa and the Bastione del Parlascio, with the F. Russoli Art School, the magazine “Seconda Cronaca” and the Municipality of Pisa.
