On the occasion of the European Archaeology Days (EAD), the Antiche Navi Centro Studi will be open to the public on Friday, 12 June from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Saturday, 13 June from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Centre is a space dedicated to research, education, and cultural development, equipped with storage facilities, study laboratories, an auditorium, and an exhibition area for temporary displays. It was created through the redevelopment of the “Cantiere delle Navi Antiche” of Pisa, the archaeological site near Pisa San Rossore railway station where, beginning in 1998, dozens of Roman-era vessels were brought to light. Today, the area welcomes scholars and visitors within a large garden whose surface design traces the outlines of the ships discovered underground, preserving the memory of these remarkable finds and their original locations.
During these special opening days, visitors will be able to explore free of charge the exhibition of artefacts recovered from archaeological excavations across the local area and gain access to the storage facility where archaeological finds, normally inaccessible to the public, are preserved.
