The University of Pisa, through its Center for Innovation and the Diffusion of Culture (Cidic), will open 2026 with a large and detailed exhibition entitled “San Francesco 1226-2026. Spirituality, Dialogue and Brotherhood in the global world” which –in the months of February, March and April – will involve the entire city with a series of initiatives designed to rediscover, 800 years after his death on 3 October 1226, the figure of Saint Francis, whose testimony is as alive today as ever.

A dense program made possible thanks to the contribution, patronage, and collaboration of a network of local institutions, organizations, and organizations.

Si partirà il 12 febbraio 2026 con la prima nazionale del nuovo spettacolo teatrale “Francesco” che vedrà in scena Aldo Cazzullo e Angelo Branduardi e si arriverà fino al 19 aprile con una serie di ospiti tutti di primo piano: Tomaso Montanari (19 febbraio), Luciano Fontana (27 febbraio), Alessandro Barbero (4 marzo), Agnese Pini, Franco Cardini, Giovanna Botteri e molti altri.

It will start on February 12, 2026 with the national premiere of the new theatrical show “Francesco” which will see Aldo Cazzullo and Angelo Branduardi on stage and will run until April 19 with a series of prominent guests: Tomaso Montanari (February 19), Luciano Fontana (February 27), Alessandro Barbero (March 4), Agnese Pini, Franco Cardini, Giovanna Botteri and many others.

Pisa Cathedral will welcome the public on March 21: Oscar winner Nicola Piovani, pianist and composer, will conduct the works “Pietas” and “Canticle of the Creatures” in the splendid setting of the Cathedral. An evening that will be enriched by readings by Sergio Rubini and the participation of the Choir, the Unipi Orchestra, and the Pisan Philharmonic.

Many venues will host the festival: Palazzo della Sapienza, Teatro Verdi, Pala Todisco, Pisa Cathedral, Polo Carmignani, Cineclub Arsenale, and the Graphics Museum of Palazzo Lanfranchi.

The initiatives of the exhibition “San Francesco 1226-2026. Spirituality, Dialogue and Brotherhood in the global world” will be free and open entry.
