From July 17 to September 4, 2026, Idoli 7.0, a constellation of seven enameled refractory terracotta figures that embody artist Michele Bracciotti's personal vision of myth in the present, will be on display at the GAMeC - Contemporary Art Exhibition Center.
The sculptures, suspended between archaic memory and contemporary sensibility, seem to come from a time when the boundary between human, animal, and divine was permeable, unstable, continually transforming.
Bracciotti draws on an ancient imagery, but passes through it with an ironic and visionary gaze. Its forms do not imitate the past: they reactivate it, they short-circuit it with our time. The deliberately eccentric proportions, the enigmatic faces, the enamelled surfaces that oscillate between burnt lands and otherworldly flashes generate a dimension that borders on the surreal, without ever losing the symbolic strength of Mediterranean tradition.
Idols thus become creatures in metamorphosis, presences that do not allow themselves to be defined. Each figure seems on the verge of changing, as if it guarded a multiple, stratified identity. It is a language that speaks of transformation, of steps, of intermediate states: an invitation to consider identity as a process, not as a concluded form.
The artist's research has focused for years on an alphabet of primordial signs, coming from both the underworld and the celestial one. In these seven sculptures, such symbols condense into a new pantheon: not deities to be venerated, but presences that question our way of being in the world. They are idols who ask not for worship, but for attention; they offer no answers, but open gaps.
The public is called to enter this space of resonance, where each figure is a fragment of a larger story, a piece of the great iconographic archive that Bracciotti has been building for years. His works are never definitive: they are evolving organisms, part of a process that is renewed with every installation, with every glance.
In Idols 7.0, the artist renews the function of the idol: no longer a sacred object, but a symbolic mirror of our inner metamorphoses, our passages, our identities in motion.
The installation, curated by Massimiliano Sbrana, will be visible from outside the gallery until September 4, 2026, transforming the showcase into a privileged observation point accessible to all.
The exhibition is free to enter and can be visited Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm starting August 4, 2026.
