The State Archives of Pisa open their doors to show the tangible results of patronage and care for the history of our region, made possible by the ArtBonus project!

Thanks to the contribution of a generous patron and co-financing from the Ministry of Culture, a restoration project involving 90 parchments and a manuscript codex, the famous Chronicles of Jacopo Arrosti, was completed in 2025.

Friday 12 December, at 5.30 p.m., together with Chiara De Nicolai, restorer who performed the intervention, we will discover the different stages of the recovery project just finished, to get to know closely a valuable work of care and conservation of cultural heritage. With Daniele Cianchi, Director of the University Library of Pisa, we will present the restoration projects underway at the two institutes, partners in a collaboration that combines expertise and resources to better safeguard the preserved heritage. With Alessandra Operamolla, Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry at the University of Pisa, we will learn about one of the most innovative paper restoration techniques using nanocelluloses.

On Saturday, December 13th, from 10:30 am to 6:30 pm, the exhibition will be free to enter.

The opportunity will also be precious to showcase the restoration projects that are part of the ArtBonus 2026 campaign of the State Archives of Pisa:

  • Councilor Dino Dringoli will talk about the 15 drawings by architect Federigo Severini;
  • Director Jaleh Bahrabadi will present the register of privileges of the Hospital of S. Chiara (sec. XIII)

History only comes to life if we care!
