International Museum Day - The Power of Museums

On Wednesday 18 May, as every year, all countries around the world will celebrate International Museum Day, the day promoted by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) with the aim of recalling the role museums play in society and strengthening their ties with local communities, visitors and national and local cultural policy makers.

The Museo Nazionale di San Matteo will offer a free guided tour inspired by this year's theme chosen by ICOM:

The Power of Museums, also intended as an opportunity to explore the role of museums in the construction of a shared cultural identity.

The guided tour will focus on the museum's links with the city of Pisa.

Linking the works to the churches and contexts of their origin, retracing their material history to highlight the reasons and motives that led to their inclusion in the collection. Starting from one of the oldest collections of medieval art put together at the end of the 18th century.
