Domenica al museo maggio 2024
Place:
Pisa
Start date:
End date:

Sunday 5 May sees the renewal of the appointment with Domenica al Museo (Sunday at the Museum), the Ministry of Culture's initiative that allows free admission, every first Sunday of the month, to state museums and archaeological parks

In Pisa they adhere:

  • The Museo Nazionale di San Matteo, open from 9 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. (last admission at 1 p.m.).

At 11 a.m.: Prof. Marco Collareta will give a lecture on the two panels painted by Domenico Ghirlandaio in the Museo Nazionale di San Matteo, depicting "Madonna and Child Enthroned among Saints", a type of 15th-century altarpiece known as the "Sacred Conversation".
Coming from the convent of San Girolamo in Pisa, the panels are those that Vasari remembers Ghirlandaio having executed for the Gesuati friars in Pisa.
After the abolition of the Gesuati Congregation in 1688, the paintings passed, with the convent and its property, to the Benedictine nuns of Sant'Anna and from there to the Museo di San Matteo. It now seems certain that the two panels were executed during Ghirlandaio's stay in Pisa between 1478 and 1479.

  • The National Museum of the Royal Palace will be open from 9 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. (last entrance at 1.30 p.m.).

At 11 a.m., museum staff will take visitors on a tour of some of the works in the Savoy Collection.
